Our Clinical Team
Dr Frank Procopio
Dr. Frank Procopio graduated from the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry in 1981, receiving the Albert E. Webster Award for Clinical Excellence in Restorative Dentistry. After maintaining a position as Associate Professor at the University Clinic, and working as a team member at the Toronto Dental Emergency Service, he established a private cosmetic and family practice in 1984 with an emphasis on prevention, interceptive orthodontics, implantology, crown and bridge, and esthetic reconstruction.
He completed a surgical residency at the Nobel Biocare Institute for implant placement. Dr. Procopio is a member of the International Orthodontic Association (IOA), the American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry (AACD), the Canadian Dental Association (CDA), the Ontario Dental Association (ODA), and various continuing education study groups and societies.
Dr. Procopio takes pride in his dentistry and is also passionate in many other fields that developed alongside his dental practice, both in applied dental materials and high-energy physics. He conducted a research project in laser bio-photonics at the UofT McLennan Physics Laboratory for a hard-tissue dental laser device he co-invented with oral pathologist, Dr. Allan Dovigi. The proof-of-principle and the resulting apparatus were filed at the U.S. Patent Office. Ongoing research continues.
In recent years, his strongest passion away from the office has been in the world of motion picture arts. Frank is a produced writer/producer for the theatrical screen and mentor for delivering 14 short films that as a body of work have screened at more than 200 film festivals around the world, winning over 50 Awards. His first feature length screenplay launched the career of William Vince, who went on to produce the Oscar Winning film, Capote (2005), with the late Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Samira (Dental Assistant)
Prior to becoming a Level II Dental Assistant, Samira worked as a surgical room nurse for nearly five years as part of a team conducting kidney transplants, mastectomies, C-sections and other internal medical procedures. She brings a vast knowledge of surgical sterility, protocol, and above all patient compassion to her career in dentsitry.
She was licensed with honours and continues to attend many continuing education programs, including this year's certification for orthodontic assistant. Samira has now been with Dr. Procopio for over six years and remains as enthusiastic and dedicated as ever.
Away from the office, she spends time with her teenage son, works out regularly, and enjoys swimming and travel!
Violet graduated with honours from Loretto Abbey before entering the dental field as a chairside assistant. She entered hygiene after more than ten years of combined interest in dental reception, accounting and practice management.
In 2010, she graduated as recipient of all four Hygiene Graduation Awards presented by the Dean:
Academic Achievement Award
Hu-Friedy Golden Scaler Clinical Award
Faculty Recognition Award
Peer Recognition Award
Once in clinical practice, Violet was instrumental for the introduction of new protocols to our practice that include Laser Diode gingival therapy, Oral Cancer Screening, Enamel Re-mineralization, White Spot Reduction, Halitosis Management with bacterial culture analysis, and Orthodontic services. Violet is committed to delivering pain-free, non-surgical soft tissue treatment and for promoting optimal oral health and general vitality.
Away from the office, Violet is an avid runner who enjoys the outdoors, keeping shape, and having a balanced nutrition. She speaks fluent Italian and gets by with conversational French, which she is planning to improve!
She is currently an emerging Women in Film producer, in development of a variety of projects for the theatrical screen and cable specialty networks. Her previous producing effort won a first prize at the 2013 TIFF Next:Wave Festival before screening and winning awards at the Rhode Island and Chicago Children's Film Festivals, and recently overseas in June at the 2015 Sinagapore Children's Film Fesvital with the short comedy film, "Piece of Cake".
